Ohio, like all states, has minimum auto insurance requirements; however, Ohio’s “auto insurance” requirements are a bit different. You are actually required to obtain, and show proof of, financial responsibility. So, rather than only being able to purchase a liability car insurance policy, Cincinnati drivers are able to choose from a variety of ways to meet the financial responsibility requirements in Ohio. This makes it much easier for some Ohio drivers to obtain affordable car insurance in Cincinnati.

In Ohio, you can obtain affordable Cincinnati car insurance, or satisfy financial responsibility requirements, in any of the following ways.

• Purchasing a liability car insurance policy. These are purchased from insurance companies licensed to do sell auto insurance in Ohio. The company or agent will provide you with an insurance card as proof to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) and any officer who requests it.

• Obtaining a certificate giving proof of financial responsibility. These are forms that are approved by the Ohio BMV and signed by an auto insurance agent.

• Obtaining a certificate of self-insurance. Cincinnati companies with more than 25 vehicles apply for these, and once they are approved, the Ohio BMV issues the certificate.

• Obtaining a Treasurer of State certificate. If you have $30,000 deposited with the Treasurer of State, you can apply for this to be your financial information; once approved, the Ohio BMV will issue a certificate.

You can also choose your affordable Cincinnati car insurance in the form of bonds. An insurance company licensed to sell auto insurance in Ohio, or another authorized surety, can issue you a $30,000 bond. To, the Ohio BMV can issue you a $30,000 bond if you and another individual sign the certificate and have $60,000 real estate equity between you.
